Claude Monet – Master of Impressionism

Claude Monet (1840–1926) is recognized as one of the founders of French Impressionism. His innovative technique of loose brushstrokes and his study of light and color revolutionized the art world.

He was born in Paris on November 14, 1840, and from a young age showed a keen interest in plein-air painting. His series of landscapes, gardens, and water lilies reflect the evolution of Impressionism and his constant quest to capture atmosphere and light at different times of day.
